Inside the new building at Ångström Laboratory. About two years have now passed since turning the first sod for the expansion of the Ångström Laboratory in what is the largest construction project in the history of the University. We have been allowed in to the construction site for the new building 10 by the entrance to Ångström Laboratory.

Ångström Library, a special library within Uppsala University Library, contains reference material on astronomy, physics, information technology, mathematics, materials chemistry and technology. At Ångström, one of the research fields within chemistry is focused on the development of renewable energy sources and energy carriers.This area occupies a special position in Uppsala and includes solar cells, artificial photosynthesis, hydrogen production, fuel cells, biofuels from biomass and smarter batteries.

The existing facility, covering an area of 72,000m2, is used by more than 5,000 researchers and students every day. Uppsala University conducted a pilot study to determine the prerequisites for the project and to select architect partners. Ångström Workshop. Ångström Workshop is the largest and most modern university mechanical workshop in Sweden. We develop instruments and fabricate prototypes for research groups at Uppsala University and other Swedish universities as well as national and international infrastructures.

The room provides the opportunity to use tools most people don’t have access to at home or elsewhere, and is situated at the libary at the Ångström laboratory. Ångström utsågs till ledamot i en rad akademier och lärda sällskap, däribland Royal Society i London, som tilldelade honom den Rumford-medalj som visas här intill. (Medaljen finns permanent utställd i Uppsala universitets myntkabinett.) Anders Ångström avled i hjärnhinneinflammation i juni 1874 kort före sin sextioårsdag.
